We know that each site is different, and each site will need a different amount of work.

We have worked on a considerable number of projects which have required different amounts of work from ourselves.

These projects range from including a search facility on an already existing site, to implementing a fully featured database system, to designing and hosting complete web sites. We also do a nice line in clearing up after other developers.

Here are some examples.

Voluntary Arts Network

Every now and again a project comes around that tests more or less every aspect of the Cool Pants knowledge base. This was one of those.

The Voluntary Arts Network provide information, advice and training to people and organisations working in the arts sector. They have four regional offices, and a head office.

They wanted a website that they could update themselves, and an online database offering many of the features of Access, but with data shared throughout all their offices.

Cultural Enterprise Service

The Cultural Enterprise Service is a non-profit making organization providing business support for Welsh creative industries.

One of the ways they do this is by maintaining an arts projects and contacts database.

Cool Pants became involved when they decided to make this database accessible online, but did not want to go to the expense and the bother of having their own server.

So what we did was write a program in VBA, which ran on their Access database. It constructed an email of any database changes that are made, and sends it off to the internet equivalent of their database.

We then wrote a program that runs each morning at 4am which reads the email, and changes the online version of the database accordingly.

Then we constructed the internet program that allows clients to interrogate this database.

We also provided a variety of other bells and whistles for the site, including a self updating diary, a noticeboard system, search facilities and a visitor counter.
